Get Involved

"Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me."

There are many ways to get involved in the St. Isidore Project from volunteering for a one-day gleaning activity to making a long-term commitment of garden maintenance to helping us start a garden at your church. We are also happy to work with groups (school, work, community, church) to organize volunteer projects.

Summer Initiative

Do you know that Loudoun County is the richest county in America with a median house hold income in 2017 of $134,464? Yet, there are still over 13,000 people in Loudoun County who are poor and don’t know where their next meal is coming from.

They visit the local food pantries and get what the food pantry has to offer -- boxed or canned food. This summer, the St. Francis de Sales Vacation Bible School (VBS) is teaming up with the St. Isidore Project and Catholic Charities’ St. Lucy Project to provide fresh produce to those in need. We need your help to meet our goal: 1,500 lbs of fresh produce each month, during the summer growing season.

How can you help?

We are looking for as many people as are willing to help us grow and donate food. If you already have a home vegetable garden, would you be willing to add just one more plant?

The St. Isidore Project will provide a zucchini or cucumber seedling to any family willing to grow a plant and harvest food. The harvest from that plant will be donated back to the St. Isidore Project. All fresh food grown at the St. Isidore Project will be donated to the Catholic Charities food pantry in Leesburg.

If you are willing to plant a plant, please contact us.

I can’t grow a plant, but I still want to help!

A lot of people just don’t have a green thumb. Don’t worry, you can still help. The week of VBS (July 9-13), we will be collecting donations of store bought fresh vegetables. You can send in produce donations with your VBS Camper or drop them off at the parish hall from 9am-12pm.

We are collecting the following fresh foods only:

·     Tomatoes

·     Sweet Potato/ White Potatoes/ Red Potatoes

·     Broccoli

·     Cauliflower

·     Lettuce (Romaine or Iceberg heads only. Please no boxes or bag salad kits)

·     Carrot

·     Zucchini/Squash (any color or variety)

·     Peppers (Red, Green, or Yellow. No hot peppers)

·     Green Beans

·     Cucumbers

If you can spare a few extra bucks, make your donation organic for added taste and health benefits!
